Where Art Is Reborn: The Marche Renaissance at the Bigioli Gallery in San Severino

biagili

In the heart of the historic center of San Severino Marche, on the first floor of the 18th-century Town Hall overlooking Piazza del Popolo, stands the “Filippo Bigioli” Civic Gallery of Modern Art, one of the city’s most significant cultural landmarks.

The gallery houses a valuable collection of contemporary artworks and a collection dedicated to the 19th-century painter and engraver Filippo Bigioli, an artist from San Severino who achieved national fame for his neoclassical compositions and the famous cartoons of the “Galleria Dantesca.”

Currently, the Gallery’s exhibition halls are hosting the major exhibition “The Marche Renaissance: Works of Art Restored from Areas Affected by the Earthquake Along the Pilgrimage Routes,” which runs through January 7, 2026.

The exhibition brings together numerous masterpieces from the areas affected by the 2016 earthquake, which have been returned to the public thanks to meticulous restoration and conservation efforts. A journey through beauty and rebirth, showcasing the extraordinary vitality of the Marche region’s artistic heritage and the dedication of those who, with expertise and passion, have made its rebirth possible.

Visiting the Civic Gallery of Modern Art today means not only admiring the works of Bigioli and other contemporary masters, but also embarking on a journey of remembrance and rebirth that brings together art, history, and the identity of the region.
